Pipex buys Toucan and Bulldog

Pipex has purchased two businesses, Toucan and Bulldog, increasing its customer base by 1.14 million.
Toucan has been bought from American firm IDT for £24 million. Toucan has 185,000 broadband, home phone and mobile customers.

Pipex has bought Bulldog from Cable and Wireless for £12 million. Bulldog has around 100,000 broadband customers.

This move will allow Pipex to offer “triple play” products. Triple play is the term used to refer to a provider that can offer broadband, mobile and home phone products (or broadband, digital TV and home phone products). Triple play is becoming an essential strategy for telecoms companies to survive in an ultra competitive market.

At present I have a business BT line with broadband - privately I use Toucan 24 hour free Uk phone plus line rental. I retire at the end of September and wish to amalgamate my present Toucan account to include broadband. Prior to Toucan I used Homecall - as now both providers are operated/owned by Pipex who offer broadband at £6.50 plus free UK landline cals at £12.99 - are you going to make changes and offer a one off price to existing users of Toucan - if so what??

We offer a service to compare products offered by providers such as Pipex and therefore can only show products that Pipex themselves offer.

Pipex have not yet announced what they will be doing with existing users of Toucan. As soon as we find out more we will post the information on this blog.

In the mean time, you can always cancel your Toucan phone package and sign up for the Pipex combined broadband and UK landline calls package. Any changes to the Toucan packages as a result of the acquisition by Pipex are likely to take several months to implement, so this may be the best way to take advantage of the Pipex offer.
