Wireless Broadband (Wi-Fi)
Your computer does not need to be physically connected to your telephone line to surf the Internet. With wireless broadband, the broadband signal can be transmitted to your computer using a radio signal. You can also connect multiple computers to the Internet with a single broadband connection. Wireless broadband is otherwise known as Wi-Fi, or wireless fidelity.In order to use wireless broadband, you must have a wireless router. The wireless router plugs into your telephone line (or cable if you are a NTL or Telewest customer), or broadband modem and transmitts the signal to your computer. There are various ways in which your computer can receive and send the signal. Most modern laptops have Wi-Fi built in. If your computer does not have it built in, you can buy a wireless network card that you install into your computer. Or you can buy a wireless USB adaptor, which is a small device that plugs into your USB port.
